SOUTH SUMATRA
KRUI SURF TRIP
14 - 24 FEB | 2027 | 6 SPOTS ONLY
10 nights in South Sumatra. Wake up to one of the most consistent beach breaks in Indonesia right out front, with reefs and a long left point a short drive away. Surf, eat, repeat.
Date: (14th - 24th February) 2027
Location: Krui, South Sumatra, Indonesia
Event Type: 10 Night Surf Trip
Skill Level: ‘Intermediate + / Advanced’
LOCATION
Krui, South Sumatra
Krui is classic Sumatra. Jungle running down to the sand, empty roads, fishing villages and waves lined up along the coast. No big resorts, no beach clubs, just good surf and good people.
The people of Lampung are warm and welcoming. Like most of Sumatra, the area is Muslim, so you’ll see mosques in every village and hear the call to prayer throughout the day.
The waves? A bit of everything. Punchy beach break peaks, a long left point, hollow reefs and plenty of setups in between. Some have names, some don’t.
Life is simple. Fresh fish, rice, coconuts and plenty of sambal. Krui is raw, real and still wild.
Mandiri Beach (out front): One of the most consistent beach breaks in Indonesia. Rarely flat, always packs a punch, with left and right peaks that can barrel. Best early before the wind. This is our home break and morning session.
The Point: A long, fun left point up the coast. Perfect for linking turns and working on your rail game.
The Reefs: Krui is home to some world class reef breaks, including Ujung Bocur and Way Jambu. February is early season with smaller swell, so these are a bonus if a swell lines up.
Each evening our coaches and the resort’s surf guides look at the swell, wind and tides and make a call for the next day. We check the beach out front at sunrise, surf it most mornings, then plan the rest of the day over breakfast. The resort has drivers and vans on standby all day, so if somewhere else is firing, we go.
That’s the beauty of Krui: a world class beachie on your doorstep and options up and down the coast.
THE WAVES
We’re staying at The Mandiri Beach Club, a beachfront surf resort sitting right in front of the break. Seven large ensuite rooms, shared between our group only.
Recovery is built in: a pool, sauna and ice bath overlooking the waves. There’s also a mini skate ramp and a beachfront bar for snacks, coffee and drinks.
All food is provided, with three chef cooked meals served daily. The resort crew are some of the best in Indo.
ACCOMMODATION
IS THIS FOR ME?
This Krui surf trip is designed for ‘intermediate’ to ‘advanced’ surfers who want to surf every day and take their surfing to the next level.
Our approach emphasises respect and kindness in the water. We are there to score waves and share the stoke with everyone. Nothing too serious and definitely no agro energy.
The resort’s local surf guides pick the best wave on the day and our coaches work with you in the water. Every session is filmed by the resort’s photographer and we use the footage for video analysis, so you can see real progress across the 10 days.
This trip is about scoring waves, surfing your brains out and coming home a better surfer.
