SIMEULUE

NORTH SUMATRA SURF TRIP

1 - 9 MAY | 2026

7 nights on an island in Indonesia’s hidden north. Find epic uncrowded waves, reefs & fun beach breaks. Stay on the water’s edge at one of the OG surf camps, where finding uncrowded waves isn’t a maybe, it’s a must.

Date: (1st -9th May) 2026

Location: Simeulue, North Sumatra, Indonesia

Event Type: 7 Day Surf Trip

Skill Level: ‘Adv Intermediate’ - ‘Advanced’

LOCATION

Simeulue Island, North Sumatra

Simeulue is what we love about surfing, remote and unpredictable but beautiful. Less crowds, no beach clubs and no bull**** haha, just pumping waves and good people.

Sitting off North Sumatra’s coast, it’s an island wrapped in reef and covered in jungle.

Simeulue people like most Indonesians are happy welcoming people. They are dedicated Muslims. You’ll see beautiful mosques in every town and people praying throughout the day and night.

The waves? Everything… heavy, playful, and everything in between. You’ll find barrels that’ll rearrange your brain, A frame reefs begging for some high performance combos, wedgey beach breaks + many more.

Life is simple. Fish straight from the ocean, rice from the field, coconuts from the trees freshly made spicy sambal. The locals smile wide and live slow. Simeulue is: raw, real, and still wild.

There are waves scattered all along the island. Some with names, some without and others still waiting to be discovered. Within 10 minutes of the resort, you’ve got at least four quality setups to choose from. Within an hour, and you’re looking at 10+ waves and if you’re up for a 2-hour mission, the options open up even more. Everything: reefs, beachies, slabs, a frames and points

Each evening, our guides and coaches chat about the next day’s conditions and make a call based on swell, wind, and tides. After checking the conditions out front in the morning, we discuss the plan over breakfast before heading for the first surf. Usually, we’re back for lunch, but if we’re on a mission, the cooks will prepare us a lunch to take on the road. Then it’s usually a second session in the afternoon, sometimes a third if conditions are looking too good to miss.

That’s the beauty of Simeulue: variety without the crowds.

Boat Trips:

Some of the waves are only reachable by boat. If conditions look good, we’ll chat with everyone and decide the plan. A full day on the boat chasing remote waves and exploring the islands.

THE WAVES

The beach front surf resort is one the the original surf camps on Simeulue.  It features epic villas accommodating 2–4 guests each, depending on group size and travel style (partners, singles, or families).

Each villa comes with a private bathroom, plus you’ll have access to common areas with a pool, Wi-Fi, and a smart TV.

All food is provided, with three delicious meals served daily. The staff at the resort are amazing! Some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

  • The Days

Expect full days of surfing and chasing waves. If conditions aren’t great,(unlikely) we can explore the island, hang out by the pool, watch surf edits to get us fired up, play a few games on the pool table, we can even check out some local waterfalls or the nearby town.

    The Culture

You’ll be immersed in the Simeulue Island culture. The Simeulue people are happy, welcoming, and deeply connected to their island. They are practising Muslims, with daily prayers and mosques in every town. Life moves slowly and simply, centred on family, community, and religion.

As visitors, we need to respect their culture and religious beliefs.

    Dress Code

Simeulue people maintain very strong Muslim beliefs. Therefore, we are respectfully asked to dress moderately (arms, chest and knees covered) when outside the resort grounds.  Therefore, it means no bikinis or tank tops when out in town.

For surfing, we recommend men wear board shorts and a shirt, if you like. Women wear either a one-piece swimsuit with long tights or board shorts with a rash shirt. We can arrange boat trips to secluded islands where the dress code is not an issue.

    Alcohol

Alcohol in some areas is illegal to consume. If you intend to bring duty free it can only be enjoyed inside your accommodation.

    Extras

There will be a surf photographer with us every day. If you want to keep your videos and photos from the trip, you can purchase a photo and video package separately.
